BUHLER USD 313 RENOVATIONS: AD ASTRA ACADEMIES & CHILDCARE FACILITIES

LOCATION: BUHLER, KS

In an inspiring effort to address the increasing need for quality childcare, Buhler USD 313 selected Simpson Construction to renovate two new daycare facilities: Crusader Corner Daycare (a 3,000 SF complete transformation of an old church into a daycare) and Buhler Beginnings, a 2,600 SF Renovation and playground addition at Buhler Grade School. These facilities represent a significant stride toward providing accessible childcare for district staff and families in the broader community, accommodating more than 80 children from birth to age 3 between the two locations.

Funded partly by the Accelerator and Innovation Grant from the Reno County Childcare Task Force, the project was a community-driven initiative with matching funds raised through the Buhler Education Foundation. These new childcare centers serve the entire community, provide essential services, and create environments where young children can thrive.

At the same time, we worked with the Buhler school district to complete renovations to an existing building and transform it into the new home of USD 313’s Alternative Academy and Virtual Academy.

The mission of the Ad Astra Academies is to provide an exceptional, innovative, technology-based education that prepares students for colleges, careers, and the global community. The new building is a testament to this mission, offering a dynamic environment where students can thrive.

Key updates to the 5,000 SF renovation of the Ad Astra Academies building include:

  • Secure Entry: Enhanced security features to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
  • Renovated Offices and Classrooms: Modernized spaces designed to foster collaboration and effective learning.
  • Student Breakout Areas: Flexible spaces for group activities and collaborative projects.
  • New HVAC: Upgraded heating, ventilation, and air conditioning to improve air quality throughout the building.
  • Updated Restrooms and Kitchen: Refreshed amenities to support the daily needs of students and staff.
